Prague

Yesterday we went to Prague for the day! Its great because it's only 1 1/2 hrs from Dresden by car :P...

It was a great day for sight seeing so we walked around the city and took soooooooo0000000000000 many pics!!!! It's a really cool city, beautiful down by the river, lots of cafes, Museums and Art Gallery's, plenty of churches, music, theres so many things to do there and plenty of ppl around to create the atmosphere!

After walking for the pretty much whole day till about 9pm, we were pretty stuffed!

I really liked the pl and would definitely go back for another visit someday!

Berlin

Yesterday we drove to Berlin. The car broke down when we got to the city and it was raining and we had to jump out of the car and push it to the side of the road!!!!!!!!

Attila managed to get it to start after wacking one of the battery connections (this is what they call the russian way of fixing things, just wack on it with something and it works again haha)

As soon as we parked the car we went and caught the train to Alexander Platz and were going to go up the Tv Tower (in the pic, smack bang center-its about 200m high and has a restaurant up there that revolves and has an amazing view apparently!) but the line up was so long so we barred that and headed to the Postdamer Platz.

The rain stopped and it started to clear up when we got to Postdamer Platz :P so we walked around and got to bits of the Berlin Wall. (the pic of me with the angry face-the side I am on there was the eastern side of Berlin)

We followed the wall till we got to Brandenburger Tor (Top middle and Middle left in pic) and then we checked out the Reichstag (Top right and Middle bottom in pic) before making our way back to Postdamer Platz.

Before we left for home we caught the Simpsons movie :P there was a film museum and an Imax theater in the Postdamer Platz so we wanted to go have a look if anything was on and there was also a cinema in there and the Simpsons happened to be showing so we went and watched it! =)

Ice cream!

Uta said we had to go to this Ice cream place in Weimar, Cafe Venezia because they have the BEST ice creams. So after Buchenwald, we went there.

Attila got the tiramisu, Uta got the yoghurt with strawberries and I got After Eight (or in Oz after dinner mint).

They were massive and we both felt a bit sickly afterwards!!!!!!!!!

Weimar

A few days ago we went to Weimar for the wk end, which is about 2 hours drive from Dresden. Attila's mum Uta, is from there so on Sat night we had dinner with the family (all of his mum's sisters, brother and their father) we had yummy bbq bratwurst :P

The next day we went to Buchenwald Concentration Camp. It was very disturbing and upsetting. Seeing some of the rooms in the crematorium sent chills up my spine as did the photos of the prisoners...

2 examples:

There was a medical room (or pretend medical rm). They would lead the prisoners into this room that looked to be a medical room where they check your sight, height or weight etc..and in the corner where they check your height, little did the prisoners know that there was a hidden rm directly behind the height measurer. The guards would place there gun through the gap where the height measurer slid up and down and shoot them as they were pretending to measure them.

Then outside the court yard of the Crematorium there were some steps that led down into another horrible room. I thought it was a gas chamber until I saw all the hooks high on the walls and read that the prisoners were strangled on the hooks.

Then the photos in the art exhibition just made the whole scene more horrific. What we think it might of been like was probably nothing to how bad it actually was in there...just un-imaginable

Vidám Park

Yesterday we went to Vidám Park. A Fun fair or Theme park in Budapest!

It was so much fun going on all the rides, we started off with the bumper cars then watched Mariko go on some of the lil kiddies rides.

Attila and I then went off on our own for half an hr and went on the newer rollercoaster with the loop. It was Attila's first loop rollercoaster to go on so he was all excited and I was pretty excited too, I love rollercoasters!

Even the old old old rollercoaster built in 1906 was something we had to go on before we left. The photo in the top left is the track! It was still cool, even though it was sooooooooooooooooooo old and had no loop. It still had some good drops too..gotta love those good drops!

Budapest Zoo

It was another nice hot day so yesterday we went to the Budapest Zoo! It was cool seeing all the animals esp when you have a little one with you (Mariko)...

My fave animal was the little monkey, he was an entertaining little fella! We were still inside an enclosure but there was no cage between the lil dude and the ppl!

The Blacktail prairie dog's were really cute too!!!

Hot day, Cold swim

It was also sooooooooooo hot on Saturday that it called for a swim! After Ikea we came hm and jumped straight in the pool! We ate our ice creams in there too =) Attila also had his brewsky while floating in his blow up chair.

Mariko

The second day in Hungary we went to Ikea to get some mosquito nets!!!

We went and had some lunch at their little cafe there and Attila's little cute cousin Mariko had a drink fest and drank about 4 cups of juice (not bad for a little 2 1/2 yr old)...we kept giving her more straws to drink out of and Attila got the camera out just as it was dripping everywhere :P

Wien (Vienna)

We didnt take that many pictures when we got to Wien! We were there for one night and one day and walked around for most of the day looking at sights in the city (with in the ring)

We made the time to go to the famous Hotel Sacher, where they make the worlds famous Sachertorte!

I am the biggest fan of chocolate and chocolate cake so I had high expectations and unfortunately I didnt like it. It had a strange taste to me, it was real tangy and I thought it would be like a rich moist chocolate mud cake :( ohwell at least I can say I tried it..

It wasnt cheap though, we ordered 2 sachertorte, 1 chocolate shake and a hot chocolate and it came to about Au $30. I dont think it will be something I will have again...

Neuschwanstein Panorama

Another photo of Neuschwanstein and the beautiful panorama view from Neuschwanstein that Attila captured.

It really looks like something from a fairy tale doesnt it? No wonder they used it in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and as inspiration for Walt Disneys Cinderella Castle :P

Aussie Bars

We also came across a Ned Kelly Australian Bar in Munich!!!!

It's so funny to come across them, we've seen a few Australian Bars in Germany already.

The bar was full of Oz memorabilia, even the coasters had koalas and kangaroos on them AND they even had a few Aussie beers (VB, Carlton Cold, Crown Lager, Fosters) Attila was so ready for his VB, but they ran out!!!! He was devo and had to settle for a Carlton Cold.

It was a great little place, made me think of hm and feel proud to be an Aussie :P

Munich

After Sweiz we went back to Munich and stayed there for a few days with Attila's buddy Marcus. He took us to a few places in the city during the time we were there...

We went to a big beer garden (where I'm holding the massive jug of beer and pretending it's mine :P) we stayed there and chilled for an hour or two listening to the band and then catching up with Mike who studied at SAE with Attila.

We also climbed up the famous "Old Peter" church (the pic where we look like we could be in a cage, top right and the two nxt to that one!) I was SO out of breath climbing all those steps and then when we got to the top I was a bit freaked out as it was about 90 meters high, u stepped outside and it was just a ledge that went out and around the church and had that cage like bar around it. The boys didnt know how freaked out I was!!

We caught an english movie (I think they show these in germany once a day) as one of the days there was rainy and miserable.

Then the rest of the time we ate and ate and ate =) had to try some traditional Bavarian food! I'll say it again and again, these Germans know how to cook and I'll definitely miss their food when we return home :P

Zurich (Switzerland)

We decided to go to Sweiz last Sat so we took the train from Dresden to Zurich (with a 1 hr stop in Munich). It took us about 11 hours of travel so we were pretty tired when we arrived!

I got Attila onto the Da Vinci Code on our stop at Munich as those first few hrs got a bit boring, so we thought it would be a good time filler to get some books for the last leg..I continued with a series by Jean M Auel that I was reading a few mths ago. (Attila doesn't even read books but he's now hooked and he's more than half way through :P)

Our train back to Munich the next day was at 6:30pm so we really only had a few hrs to run around Zurich. We decided to do a 4 hr organised tour, instead of exhausting ourselves walking around everywhere.

It was really good cause not only do you see the most important things and learn a bit more about the country, the city and its history, majority of the time ur sitting down on the bus which is what we like :P :P :P I know we are a tad bit lazy.

It must be said Switzerland=THE BEST Chocolate, Milk and Cheese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick entry from me (Attila) since Fi is reading her book and I'm computer buzi... We went to Neuschwanstein castle but didn't get in (would've been hours and hours of waiting) so we went to the lookout and walked down the hill before we got some food in a nice little restaurant far away from the tourist madness. (see apple strudel, above :D )

I hope Fi will blog about Switzerland and all that now that the pics are on her laptop. Today, we'll go to Vienna. It'll be fairly late so we won't be able to have a look around there today, but hopefully tomorrow.
